Press Release

Post Date:06/22/2017 11:15 AM
On June 20, 2017 at approximately 8:30 PM the Franklin Township Police Department responded to a home in the Somerset section of the Township for a report of an individual having a psychological crisis.  Upon arrival they met with the resident who advised that her 11 year old daughter, who is Autistic, had an outburst after being told she could not go to a friend’s house.    The child grabbed a large kitchen knife and locked herself in her bedroom.

Within minutes of arriving on scene Officers Brian Quigley and Christine Rodriguez were able to calm the girl down and have her come out of her room.  Through negotiation, they were able to convince her to put down the knife and she was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

Chief Lawrence Roberts stated, “Officers Quigley and Rodriguez utilized their training and compassion to quickly defuse an extremely volatile situation.  Because of their immediate and decisive actions, no one was injured and this child was able to get the assistance that she needed.”
