On Friday, February 26, 2016 at 10:01 PM, Franklin Township Police Officer David Cruz was patrolling on Rt. 27 in the area of the Little Rocky Hill Fire House when he observed a male lying in the roadway unconscious and bleeding from the head.  He immediately advised dispatch of the situation and requested EMS personnel to respond to the scene.  While he tended to the male he was approached by Kristen Cahill, 34 of Dover, Ohio who advised that she believed she struck the male.

The initial investigation revealed that the victim, Todd Hawthorne, 53, of Montgomery, NJ was lying partially in the northbound lanes of Rt. 27 near the Little Rocky Hill Fire House when he was struck by Cahill’s Honda Accord.  Ms. Cahill was traveling northbound on Rt. 27 when she noticed Mr. Hawthorne in the roadway; she swerved but struck him with her tire.   He was transported to a local area hospital with a severe head injury by EMS personnel.  Ms. Cahill was uninjured in the crash

The Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau responded to the scene and is investigating the crash.  The circumstances as to why Hawthorne was lying in the roadway at the time of the crash are under investigation.

Hawthorne is currently listed in stable condition.

Route 27 was shut down in both directions during the investigation at Old Road for approximately three and a half hours.  Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Officer James Raics of the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau at 732-873-5533 extension 3177.
