The mission of the Franklin Township Police Department is to protect and enhance the quality of life via a Community Policing Operational Philosophy, through a partnership with the community, and to promote a safe and secure environment, free from crime and the fear of crime, for all who live, work or visit our community.

Members of the Department are dedicated to accomplishing this mission by maintaining public peace and order through fair, impartial enforcement of the law, fostering an environment of cooperation and trust within our organization and the community, and challenging the future with a spirit of optimism and innovation.

Criminal Mischief:  A Business on Arlington Avenue reported that during the overnight hours, an unknown suspect spray painted the gate to the business ($50) and spray painted a vehicle in the parking lot ($600).

Burglary/Theft:  A Business on Easton Avenue reported that during the overnight hours, an unknown suspect stole kitchen equipment from the business valued at $50,000.

Theft:  A Franklin Boulevard resident reported that during the daytime hours, an unknown suspect stole a package containing sneakers ($14) from the front stoop of the residence.

Arrest:  John Mills 3rd, 26, out of South Plainfield, NJ was arrested and taken into custody at the Piscataway police Department (NJ) on $396 in an outstanding warrant out of Franklin Township, NJ.  Mills was lodged at the Somerset County Jail in lieu of bail.

Burglary/Criminal Mischief:  A Bound Brook, NJ resident reported that sometime during the late night hours, an unknown suspect smashed the front passenger side window ($200) of a vehicle on Hamilton Street.  Nothing was taken.

Burglary/Criminal Trespass:  A Business on Executive Drive reported that during the overnight hours, an unknown suspect entered the business.  Nothing was taken. 

Shoplifting:  A Business on Franklin Boulevard reported that during the afternoon hours, two (2) unknown suspects shoplifted over the counter medications (Mucinex ($42), Aleve ($17) and Tylenol ($11).  Both suspects fled the scene.

Criminal Mischief:  A Fir Court resident reported that sometime between 04/02/2017 and 04/03/2017, an unknown suspect vandalized a car by keying the driver’s side of a vehicle ($450).

Criminal Mischief:  A Pasture Trail resident reported that an unknown suspect threw a rock and broke a window ($400). 

Criminal Mischief:  A Mustang Trail resident reported that an unknown suspect threw a rock and broke a window ($700).

04/09/2017

Attempted Burglary:  A Carson Court resident reported that during the evening hours, two (2) unknown suspects were observed in a vehicle.  They were approached by a bystander and fled the scene.  Nothing was taken.

Arrest:  Leonard W. Brown, 43, of Bound Brook, NJ was arrested at the Watching Police Department (NJ) and taken into custody on $515 in outstanding warrants out of Franklin Township, NJ.  Brown was lodged at the Somerset County Jail in lieu of bail.  “NOTE: We are required by the Rules of Court to include herein a statement explaining that the charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

Stolen Vehicle:  A JFK Boulevard resident reported that during the early morning hours, an unknown suspect stole a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant.  The owner accidentally left the keys in the vehicle.

Theft:  A Matilda Avenue resident reported that sometime between 04/07/2017 and 04/8/2017, an unknown suspect stole a license plate from a vehicle.

Burglary/Theft:  A JFK Boulevard resident reported that sometime between 04/09/2017 and 04/10/2017, an unknown suspect burglarized a vehicle and stole $8 in loose change.

Burglary/Theft:  A JFK Boulevard resident reported that during the overnight hours, an unknown suspect burglarized an unlocked vehicle and stole a Wooden Baseball Bat ($80), Composite Baseball Bat ($250), Batting Glove ($60), Prescription Safety Goggles ($274) and a Baseball Helmet ($40).

Criminal Mischief:  A Saddle Court resident reported that during the overnight hours, an unknown suspect threw a rock at the residence and broke a window ($150).

Theft:  A Lewis Street resident reported that during the late morning and afternoon hours while at a Business on Franklin Boulevard, the victim left a wallet in the store, which was subsequently stolen by an unknown suspect.  The wallet contained identification cards and $55 in US Currency.
