Township of Franklin Hosts French Legion of Honor Ceremony for Centenarian World War II Veteran and French Resistance Fighter
On Tuesday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m., the Township of Franklin will host a French Legion of Honor Ceremony for World War II Veteran and French Resistance fighter, Michel Mockers. The event will be held in the Franklin Township Municipal Building Council Chambers. Mr. Mockers, age 100, will be presented with the insignia of Knight of the Legion of Honor by French Consul General Jérémie Robert of New York. The Legion of Honor is France's highest order of merit. During World War II and the French Resistance, Mr. Mockers, now a resident of Franklin Township, was a French Lieutenant and British Under-Lieutenant, receiving the British Citation and French Citation with War Cross for his valiant bravery.
In addition to remarks from French Consul General of New York, Jérémie Robert, and Franklin Township Mayor, Phillip Kramer, the event will feature the Franklin Township Police Department Honor Guard as well as musical and spoken word presentations by Franklin High School students. Alain Dupuis, former Legion of Honor recipient and member of the French War Veterans, will be bestowing the medal on Mr. Mockers. The public is welcome to attend.
