COVID CARES ACT Rent Relief ProgramThe Township of Franklin is amending its COVID CARES ACT RELIEF Fund Program to reallocate $85,000 of funds. The emergency rent relief fund will provide up to $3,000.00 in rental assistance to income eligible families. This assistance will be paid directly to the landlord on behalf of the eligible families.

ALL FUNDS HAVE BEEN EXPENDED

ELIGIBILITY:

  • You must be a resident of Franklin Township, Somerset County.

  • You must have been current on your rent as of March 2020 and be able to provide proof of same.

  • You must have a current lease or rent agreement.

  • You must have experienced a COVID-related loss of income after March 9, 2020 and be able to provide proof as follows:

  • Layoff or reduction of work hours

  • Unpaid leave due to childcare and/or school

  • Self-quarantine for 14 days due to illness or exposure

  • Other COVID related situations for which you have documented proof

YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE IF:

  • You live in public housing.

  • You receive other government rental assistance (Section 8, Housing Choice Vouchers, project-based housing vouchers, or other federal or State housing program).

  • You have unpaid rent from before April 2020.

Your landlord must agree to accept the assistance payment for the back rent owed only. Payments can be applied to rent only. There can be no late fees, interest or penalties charged to these for the period of April 1 - December 2020.

You are eligible for the assistance provided that after payment of these funds and funds gathered from any other sources that your rent balance will be zero “0”.

Funding is limited and every eligible household may not receive assistance. It will be awarded on a first come-first served basis.
