Advise/Inform/Educate

  • our governing bodies and Boards of health on environmental issues;

  • municipal Planning Board and Board of Zoning Adjustment about environmental impacts of development proposals;

  • residents on environmental matters and ways to protect the environment;

  • other municipal officials and residents about the programs and regulations of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP)

Advocate

  • for open space planning and preservation at the local and state level;

Act

  • to attain and maintain Sustainable Jersey certification

  • in tandem with neighboring commissions and other organizations to offer solutions to local and state environmental issues and concerns;

Create

  • and maintain an updated inventory of the environmental resources and map of environmentally sensitive areas of the municipality;

  • organize and participate in environmental workshops, courses and educational programming;

Participate

  • in community events and public outreach to promote the protection of our natural resources;

Review, Inspect and Research (as appropriate)

  • environmental and natural resource issues and recommend potential solutions, where possible, to the governing body.

  • proposed development sites to supplement our review and enhance our comments being submitted to our Planning Board and/or Zoning Board of Adjustment, to insure we are properly advocating for the protection of our sensitive environmental resources.

  • grants to study local energy and environmental issues, produce pamphlets, maps and nature guides and to conduct research and data gathering for pollution prevention and natural resources inventories;
