Health and Safety

HEALTH POLICIES

• Each staff member assumes responsibility for emergency care involving a youth participant while he/she is under our program supervision. Youth Center staff members receive training in CPR, First Aid, and AED use.

• Parents and guardians will be notified of any participant injury. For severe injury, 911 will be called for emergency medical attention. Incident/accident reports are completed within 24 hours when events occur and are kept on file at the Center.

• Participants who are ill, presenting a fever, or who have a contagious disease or condition, are not allowed at The Center. If participants are too ill to participate in the full program, they need to be kept at home. If your participant becomes ill while at the program, you will be notified and must arrange to have your participant picked up within 60 minutes of being notified.

• No medication (prescription or non-prescription) will be administered to any participant. Staff can only assist a child who can self-medicate and then only with written authorization of the parent.

• Head Injuries: If at any time there is a head injury, as a precaution, the parent/guardian will be notified by the staff with the information on the situation.

In the event of a major accident:
1. We will attempt to contact the parent/guardian first (if it is life-threatening, 9-1-1 will be called first).
2. We will attempt to contact you through any person listed on the Registration Form.
3. If we cannot contact you, we will call an ambulance to have advanced medical care administered.

SUPERVISION/SAFETY/EMERGENCY POLICIES AND DRILLS
• The Township of Franklin prioritizes the safety of all participants and focuses on appropriate risk management.

• No youth will be left alone or unsupervised at any time under the care of Center staff.

• Center staff members will lead students through emergency preparedness drills to ensure all participants are aware of what to do during a variety of emergency situations (fire, tornado, active shooter, etc.). These drills are for the safety of students, staff, and volunteers, and everyone who is in the center on the day of a drill is expected to participate. Members/Guests and staff are required to follow standard safety procedures for the facility that are posted throughout the facility.

• Youth Center staff will use the Sign-In/Sign-Out Sheet to determine everyone has exited the building safely. Please check in with Staff at the meeting place before leaving the area. This ensures the safety of participants as well as staff and emergency responders.

• In the unlikely event that the Franklin Youth Center is ever severely damaged or declared unsafe, the staff will evacuate participants to a designated emergency shelter to await the arrival of the parent/guardian.

• An incident or accident report form will be completed when injury or accident occurs, and parents will be informed. A copy of the completed form will be held at the center and available upon request by the parent/legal guardian only.

• Administration and employees are required to immediately notify the local public children services agency when they suspect that a participant has been abused or neglected. Program policies are created to prevent and protect children from abuse or neglect while in the care of the Township.

• Members will notify staff immediately if they are aware of any potentially dangerous and/or illegal situations.

• Whenever a staff member suspects or has knowledge of a participant’s intention of self-harm or harming others, it is the Township's policy to report these incidents to local law enforcement.

• Cameras are located throughout our facility to maintain the safety of students, staff, and volunteers.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION
It is imperative that the Youth Center staff is notified of any contact information changes. Please notify staff immediately of any phone number, address, or email changes. Please provide emergency contacts of whom to notify in case parents or guardians are unavailable. Update requests will be issued annually at the beginning of each school year starting July 1.
