Franklin Township Police Citizen's Academy 18+
Have you ever wondered what it’s really like to be a police officer? Then welcome to your opportunity to feed that curiosity.
The Academy is geared to introduce civilians of varied ages to the law enforcement profession. Often a lack of communication is rooted in a lack of understanding; this Academy aims to provide a bridge between the communication and understanding.
The Citizen’s Academy is open to Franklin Township residents and business owners, 18 years of age and older. The Academy will provide an overview of the town, its makeup, our community policing efforts and the Internal Affairs process. We will teach you the process of a police report – from the initial call to police, to the investigation, to the written report. You will also learn about motor vehicle collision investigations and traffic stops; including a summons from issuance to finality through the court system. Additionally, you can choose to become CPR and First Aid certified. You can also choose to try your hand at real-life scenarios through the Fire Arms Training Simulator. Finally, we will give you a chance to put it all together with a night of practical exercises.
Upon graduation, participants will achieve a broader understanding on the inner workings of the Franklin Township Police Department, a better understanding of the police profession and how they can help keep our community safe through crime prevention and community awareness.
All attendees must submit to and pass a brief background check.
Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm
