National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

National Drug Take Back Day is upon us! This event addresses a crucial public safety issue that affects us all. Unneeded prescription medications, whether they are old, unwanted, or expired, pose a significant risk, often serving as a gateway to addiction. Did you know that the majority of opioid addictions start with prescription pills found in home medicine cabinets? This alarming fact highlights the importance of safely disposing of these medications to prevent misuse and protect our community.

The Franklin Township Police Department, in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), invites you to participate in DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Here are the details:

Date: Saturday, April 27th
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Public Safety Building, 495 DeMott Lane, Somerset

Accepted Items:

  • Tablets, Capsules, Patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs
  • Vaping tools (please ensure the battery has been removed)
  • Liquid products (e.g., cough syrup) should remain sealed in their original container with tightly sealed caps to prevent leakage

Items NOT Accepted:

  • Syringes or injectables
  • Sharps and illicit drugs

Proper disposal of these medications is essential. By bringing your unused, unwanted, or expired drugs to the designated location, you are actively contributing to the safety of our community and protecting our environment.

Since its inception, Take Back Day has removed more than 8,300 tons of medication from circulation, thanks to the efforts of local law enforcement and community members like you. Let’s continue this important work together.
