GENERAL PURPOSE
Under direction performs plumbing inspection and plan review work involved to enforce relevant public health laws within the Township.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Construction Code Official and Plumbing Subcode Official.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conducts plumbing inspections to enforce relevant public health laws.
• Receives and examines plans for plumbing work.
• Determines the cause of violations and takes corrective actions.
• Provides testimony in court cases.
• Prepares reports.
• Maintains records and files.
• Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
• Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of methods used to conduct plumbing inspection.
• Knowledge of plumbing installation methods.
• Knowledge of plumbing fixtures and fixture requirements.
• Ability to interpret relevant public health laws and apply them to specific cases.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with business proprietors, contractors, housekeepers, and others interested in the maintenance of public health standards.
• Ability to prepare reports of inspections containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Ability to provide testimony in court.
• Ability to maintain records and files.
• Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
• Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
License:
• Possession of a valid license as a Plumbing Inspector (HHS). Additional UCC license(s) issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs preferred.
• Possession of valid New Jersey driver’s license.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
• Work is performed mostly in field settings. Considerable outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land uses and other matters.
• The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high in the field and low to occasionally moderate in the office setting.
