1000 Books Before Kindergarten is now at the Franklin Township Public Library!
The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to read a book with their child each day.
By sharing just one book a day, families can reach the 1,000-book goal in 3 years and provide their children essential early literacy skills. Reading one picture book per day means a child will hear ½ million words in just one year! Most importantly, reading together promotes a lifelong love of books and creates an even closer bond between child and caregiver.
In the Youth Services department at Franklin Township Public Library, families can register any time during the year for this free literacy initiative and reap all the benefits of this self-paced program. All children who have not yet started Kindergarten are eligible to join 1000 Books.
To get started, visit any of the library’s 3 locations: the main branch at 485 DeMott Lane, the Franklin Park branch (in our new building at 64 Clover Place) or the Lewis Street branch (located in the Franklin Youth Center at 429 Lewis Street).
At registration, families receive a lot of terrific resources including a free book! Throughout the year, families will receive invitations to 1000 Book Events and can return every 100 books to take a photo on our iconic butterfly bench at DeMott Lane. Ask our friendly staff for suggestions because we’ are here to help you on your journey to 1000 books. Together, we can help our children become strong, confident readers!
This program, and all our library programs, are free of charge. For more information about the Franklin Township Public Library, please go to www.franklintwp.org.
