PRESS RELEASE - MV CRASH

On Monday, March 16, 2015 the Franklin Township Police responded to Canal Road near Coppermine Road for a reported motor vehicle crash.   Upon arrival officers discover the driver of the SUV entrapped in the vehicle unconscious and unresponsive.  The initial investigation revealed that the SUV was travelling northbound on Canal Road when it lost control and crossed over the double yellow line striking the guardrail.  The vehicle came off the guardrail, crossed back over the double yellow line and struck a tree with the driver’s side of the vehicle.  The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  (Diver’s information is being withheld at this time pending notification to next of kin.)

The Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau is investigating the crash.  The factors that contributed to the driver leaving the roadway are currently under investigation.  Canal Road was shut down between Old Georgetown Road and Coppermine Road for approximately two hours during the investigation.
