Township of Franklin, NJ
Home MenuCitizen's Academy 18+
The Department hosts a Citizen’s Academy for adults, in addition to our Public Safety Cadet Program for those under 21. The Academy is geared to introduce civilians of varied ages to the law enforcement profession. Often a lack of communication is rooted in a lack of understanding; this Academy aims to bridge the gap between the communication and understanding.
Have you ever wondered what it’s really like to be a police officer? Then welcome to your opportunity to feed that curiosity. The Citizen’s Academy is open to Franklin Township residents and business owners, 18 years of age and older. The Academy will provide an overview of the town, its makeup, our community policing efforts and the Internal Affairs process. We will teach you the process of a police report – from the initial call to police, to the investigation, to the written report. You will also learn about motor vehicle collision investigations and traffic stops; including a summons from issuance to finality through the court system. Finally, we will give you a chance to put it all together with a night of practical exercises.
Upon graduation, participants will have achieved a broader understanding on the inner workings of the Franklin Township Police Department, a better understanding of the police profession and how they can help keep our community safe through crime prevention and community awareness.
All attendees must submit to and pass a brief background check.
Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm
September 4th - November 20th
Location: CRB 935 Hamilton Street
