Franklin Township Certified Film Ready:

A New Hub for Filmmaking in New Jersey

NJ Film Ready Inaugural Class Announcement -INSTA (3)The New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission (NJMPTVC), in collaboration with the Somerset County Film Commission, proudly announces that Franklin Township has officially been certified as a Film Ready Community. Along with Hillsborough, South Bound Brook, and Watchung, Franklin Township has completed the comprehensive training and certification process, positioning the township to attract and support major film and television productions.

The Film Ready New Jersey program, which began as a pilot in Somerset County in September 2022, equips municipalities with the tools needed to collaborate seamlessly with production teams. With the program set to expand statewide this spring, Franklin Township is among the leaders in preparing for the entertainment industry’s booming presence.

New Jersey’s motion picture and television sector has seen a resurgence, fueled by the state’s competitive tax credit program, which provides up to a 35% transferable tax credit on qualifying production expenses. The state also offers an additional 2% or 4% diversity bonus for eligible projects. As a result, the Garden State has welcomed over 175 film and television productions, generating nearly $1.5 billion in economic impact. With productions spanning from Cape May to Sussex counties, municipalities like Franklin Township are primed to benefit from the influx of filming activity.

Steven Gorelick, Executive Director of the NJMPTVC, highlighted the importance of local partnerships, stating, “The State of New Jersey offers many advantages to the film and television industry, and cooperation is foremost among them. We are encouraging our cities and towns to welcome filmmakers with open arms and enjoy the many important benefits when production crews come into your community.”

Franklin Township’s Film Ready certification marks an exciting opportunity for local businesses, residents, and the township to showcase their community on the big screen, while fostering economic growth.
