The mission of the Franklin Township Police Department is to protect and enhance the quality of life via a Community Policing Operational Philosophy, through a partnership with the community, and to promote a safe and secure environment, free from crime and the fear of crime, for all who live, work or visit our community.

APPLICATION DEADLINE - October 23, 2020

The Franklin Township Police Department Public Safety Cadet Unit is designed to provide exciting and challenging training, along with on-the-job experience for young people interested in a career in law enforcement. Cadets participate in classroom learning, practical scenario training, and are able to participate in ride-alongs with officers. Cadets work side by side with police officers, serving at various community events. The Cadet program is an excellent way to become familiar with law enforcement policies and procedures, to network with Police Officers, and to obtain community service hours.

  • 14-20 years of age
  • Graduated 8th grade
  • Maintain at least a "C" average
  • Pass a background investigation
  • Complete an oral interview
  • Maintain good moral and ethical character
  • Attend TWO Cadet meetings per month and volunteer at township events

The Franklin Township Police Public Safety Cadet Unit is NOT a program for “troubled youth”. An applicant cannot have any arrests, convictions, or behavioral problems.

A uniform is required, and MUST be purchased by the Cadet (approx. $40) unless otherwise provided by the department.

APPLY TODAY (Deadline October 23rd)

New applicants are interviewed periodically throughout the year. If you have met the program requirements you will be contacted. Generally, new applicants begin in the months of January and September.

The application and entrance essay is to be completed by the applicant only. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. 

A copy of your most recent school report card and/or your most recent school transcript must be submitted with your application, along with a copy of your birth certificate.

The Franklin Township Public Safety Cadet Unit requires all applicants possess and maintain a G.P.A. of 2.0 for participation and be at least 14 years of age (having completed 8th grade) but no older than 17 at the time of acceptance.

The confidential background information sheet must be completed by an individual of your choice who is over the age of 18 and does not reside in your home.Your application will not be accepted without the background information sheet.

If you are currently employed, the employment record is to be filled out by a representative of your employer and submitted with your application.
